In January 2000, the department of the Institute for Contemporary History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic was established to ensure the systematic development of an oral history method and its application in Czech historiography under the title Oral History Center (COH). The main focus of COH activities is on the basic research of the recent past, which is primarily conducted in various projects, using the method of oral history; the Center's other activities are various forms of education, archiving and administration of collections of interviews and providing theoretical and methodological consultations and services to researchers and people interested in oral history.
As part of basic research, COH focuses on both collecting materials, but also on its analysis and interpretation and integration into the general historical context. This research is financially supported by the Grant Agency of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic.
